Fluxo e refluxo book release – Livestream | Companhia das Letras

August 26, at 7pm, Thursday – online via Instituto Tomie Ohtake’s Youtube channel 

Release of a new edition of the book Fluxo e refluxo, by Pierre Verger – research carried out by the photographer along his travels to and from Western Africa and Bahia. The roundtable discussion will feature anthropologist Lilia Schwarcz, historian João José Reis, jurist, historian and diplomat Rubens Ricupero, artist Ayrson Heráclito, the exhibition curator Priscyla Gomes and the director of the Pierre Verger Foundation Angela Luhning.

Amplitudes Podcast – Photography and African-derived religions

Always released on the first Monday of each month, Instituto Tomie Ohtake’s podcast Amplitudes will host guests, interviewed by educator Pedro Costa, who will be talking about the relations between photography and African-derived religions.

Online course The dimension of portraits through a decolonial perspective

October 20, October 27 and November 3, from 7pm to 9pm

Audience: General audience, up to 40 participants – 2-hour duration for each encounter, online via Zoom platform.

The course relates the work of Pierre Verger and artist Luiz Braga, from Pará, also showing at Instituto Tomie Ohtake.
